Karim Henri Torbey was born in Beirut in 1972. After completing all his school studies with the Jesuit Fathers at the Notre Dame de Jamhour College, he obtained a Lebanese law degree from Saint Joseph University in 1995 before obtaining a Master's degree in private law from Paris II-Panthéon Assas University in 1996. In June 2001, he also obtained a doctorate in law from Paris II after defending his thesis entitled, "Franchise and management contracts in the light of corporate law" (under the supervision of Prof. Philippe Merle). Awarded by Paris II University, the book was published in 2003 by LGDJ.
Karim Torbey has been a lawyer at the Beirut Bar Association since 1996. He runs a law firm located in the city center, on Parliament Square, founded by his father, Henri Torbey, over 70 years ago. The firm's practice covers the following areas: distribution contracts, including franchise agreements, intellectual property, the legal development of distribution networks, negotiations between franchisors and franchisees, conflict resolution between them, the creation and development of commercial companies, shareholder agreements, contracts relating to the international trade of goods and merchandise, trademark law, and property law, including real estate. As an advisor to Lebanese brands, Karim Torbey has supported them in their expansion abroad.
In addition to his practice as a lawyer, Karim Torbey teaches at the Faculty of Law of Saint Joseph University in Beirut and is an expert with the Lebanese Franchise Association.
